1970 Ford Mk II Cortina Perana V6 Saloon South Africa
The 1967-70 Mk II Ford Cortina was built in the UK, a boxier shape available in 2 and 4 door Saloons and Estate. Also built in Australia and NZ from 1967. Initially 1200 and 1500cc engines were carried over from the Mk I, in Jan 1968, replaced with 1300 and 1600cc cross flow head.
A mild facelift in Jan 69 saw separate F O R D letters on bonnet and boot. Auxiliary gauges on the GT dropped from a central pod on top of the dash to a central position within the dash.
A 3.0-litre Essex V6-engined variant was developed privately in South Africa by Basil Green Motors, and was sold through the Grosvenor Ford network of dealers as the Cortina Perana; a similar model appeared later in Britain and was known as the Cortina Savage. Savage was available with 1600E trim in all three body styles, while her South African stablemate was offered only as a four-door saloon initially with GT and later E trim
