Adrar is a region located in the northwestern part of Mauritania, a country situated in Northwest Africa. It is the largest and most populous region in the country, covering an area of approximately 81,000 square kilometers. Adrar is bordered by the regions of Tiris Zemmour to the north, Inchiri to the west, Trarza to the south, and the Western Sahara to the east.

The region's landscape is characterized by vast desert plains, rocky plateaus, and sand dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see. Adrar is part of the Sahara Desert and is known for its arid and harsh climate, with scorching temperatures during the day and chilly nights. The region experiences very little rainfall throughout the year.

Adrar is predominantly inhabited by the Moorish ethnic group, who are traditionally nomadic herders and traders. The region's economy mainly relies on agriculture, livestock farming, and trade. The fertile oases found in Adrar, such as Chinguetti and Ouadane, serve as important agricultural centers, producing crops like dates, millet, and sorghum.

One of the region's notable features is its rich historical and cultural heritage. Adrar is home to several ancient cities and archaeological sites that date back centuries, including the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Chinguetti and Ouadane. These cities were once important centers of learning and trade along the trans-Saharan routes.

In recent years, tourism has started to play a growing role in the region's economy, attracting visitors interested in exploring its unique landscapes, historical sites, and experiencing traditional Moorish culture.
